How To Screw Up Your Career (or not) aka What I’ve Learned from Managing 40,000 humans

People of all levels think the key to ascension is better effort, better intellect, better strategy.  As my 18 year-old would say, "that’s cap".  And it is.  I will share the unspoken and taboo elements of career success, learned the hard way by empirical observations and failure and laughing, and how they are not at all what you think.  You will leave this session saying “whoa…he is definitely not talking about me…or…hmmm, wait,… is he?  Do I really do that? I might…”.  Because we all make these mistakes.  It is what binds us together.  In this uplifting and slightly sarcastic psychological profile of our working lives and how they intersect with who we really are on the inside, we may very well learn some new tricks that very day.

I’m Begging You, Can You Please Just Be Happy Working Here?  aka Talent is Everywhere, but How Do We Attract and Retain It?

This is a question that is pretty important when you have 40,000 people across 5 continents, or 100 people on one.  We will elaborate on the key to business growth actually being personal growth, and that leadership is so very much personality-driven.  Differentiation and pricing and strategy all count but if you don’t have great leadership, you’ve got nothing.  We will discuss that while there are 10,000 books on leadership, none of them tell you what you really need to do to motivate and attract the right talent.  None of them make fun of their own very existence, but we might.  No military or sports analogies here, we will get real and humorously look at our work psychology, and how for all of us, we are just a little bit broken and can easily get a little bit fixed.  Tone is not just a musical term.
