Bio:

JP Nicols helps senior leaders see when their greatest strengths have quietly become their biggest risks.

A former bank executive turned strategic advisor, JP has spent more than two decades inside large incumbents and alongside disruptors as industries collide, business models compress, and once-reliable playbooks stop working.

He is cofounder of Alloy Labs, a consortium of banks collectively representing nearly $500B in assets, cohost of Breaking Banks, the #1 global fintech podcast, and has served on the faculty of leading graduate schools of banking since 2015.

JP’s work focuses on one question leaders rarely ask early enough: “What are we optimizing for that no longer matters?”

His sessions give executives practical frameworks to extend today’s performance while creating room for tomorrow’s relevance.

Topics:

The Irrelevance Trap:  How Success Becomes the Biggest Risk

Success creates habits, incentives, and resource allocations that quietly lock organizations onto the wrong trajectory. By the time performance declines, it is often too late.

In this keynote, JP introduces a practical framework to help leaders:

  • Recognize early signals that yesterday’s strengths are becoming tomorrow’s risks
  • Balance defending the core business with creating viable new growth options
  • Make better decisions about what to extend, what to bend, and when to leave behind

A Plan is Not a Strategy

Why most strategic plans fail to produce strategic outcomes and how leaders can reallocate scarce resources to what actually drives competitive advantage.

Creating Capacity for Growth

How organizations can stop starving new ideas while still delivering against today’s performance expectations.

FinTech Partnerships that Actually Work

How incumbents can de-risk innovation partnerships and move from experimentation to measurable returns.
